Consultation
The consultation involves gathering a brief report from the parent/caregiver(s) about their concerns regarding their child's speech and language skills. Parents/caregivers may be asked to provide other pertinent information including the child's developmental milestones. During this time the SLP will discuss normal speech and language development and use the information provided to determine if a full evaluation is warranted. Consultation can be done via phone or in person. They last up to 30 minutes.

Diagnostic Evaluation
The diagnostic evaluation is an in-depth assessment of the child's communication abilities. We use informal and formal assessment measures to collect information. Informal assessments may include child developmental case history, parent report/interview, teacher report, therapist observation, child speech and language sample, and developmental checklists. Formal assessment measures may include standardized assessments that are chosen specifically to address a child's area(s) of concern. The standardized assessments provide scores that are used to measure  your child's language development with same aged peers. After all pertinent information is gathered, the information is reviewed and analyzed. A detailed written report is completed and provided that describes the child's communication abilities, if a communication disorder is present, and treatment recommendation if applicable.

Individualized Treatment

The treatment plan is a detailed written program that outlines the therapeutic goals and services that will be provided to support a child's individualized needs as identified from the diagnostic evaluation. Activities used during therapy sessions are age appropriate and child focused. They are specifically chosen based on a child's likes and dislikes in order to establish motivation during therapy sessions. Parent/caregiver are educated on the treatment techniques used and provided with information and activities to help their child practice learned skills outside of therapy sessions.
